Legends
Srimad
Bhagavatham considered the last work of Sage Veda Vyasa speaks volumes of the gracious
deeds of Lord Krishna. It begins with his stealing butter. He ate sand
while an infant. Knowing this when Mother Yasodha came to threaten him
with a stick and asked him to open the mouth. Child Lord opened his mouth
only to show his Mother how the whole world with all its beings, trees, hills
and rivers are contained in him. Thus, he granted his Vishwarupa darshan
to Mother. The temple is understood to have been built about 800 years ago, by
a Vishnu devotee residing in Eraniel.
The
Temple
Thippiramalai
Lord Krishna temple is built as per Kerala architecture style. The temple is in
round shape. The vimana with its sharp end at the top is built with
tiles. The Bali Peeta is before the temple. Lord Krishna appears majestically
scaling 12 feet high with his beloved Mother Yasodha. This posture is
indeed a thrilling sight for the devotees. Mother Yasodha is holding butter and
a spoon in her hands.
Thippiramalai
Krishna Temple is indeed of a rare style both in the idol of Lord with his
Mother and the building. Lord Balakrishna appears with his conch and discus in
the upper hands and a club in the lower left and butter in the right. It
is said that this Krishna idol is the tallest in India.
