Akashapureeswarar Temple, Kaduveli, Thanjavur
Akashapureeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to
Lord Shiva located at Kaduveli Village in Thiruvaiyaru Taluk in Thanjavur
District of Tamilnadu. This Temple is also called as Kaduveli Siddhar Temple. Presiding
Deity is called as Akashapureeswarar and Mother is called as Mangalambikai. The
temple is associated with Pooradam
Nakshathra and is called as Pooradam Star Temple. The place is considered as
birthplace of Kaduveli Siddhar.

The
Temple
Presiding Deity is called as
Akashapureeswarar. Lord Akashapureeswarar is the authority on Pooradam star.
Nandhi the bull vehicle of Lord Shiva seen generally within the tower side, is
outside the tower in this temple. The Shiva of the temple represents space, one
of the five elements and so is called Akashapureeswarar.
Mother is called as
Mangalambikai. As Mother grants all
prosperity and happiness (Mangalam), She is praised as Mangalambikai – Mother
of prosperity. There was no Kaduveli Siddhar idol in the temple but during the
recent renovation, his idol had been installed in the front mandapam. Theertham
associated with this Temple is Mangala Theertham. Sthala Vriksham is Vanni
Tree.

Opening Time
The temple remains open from 9.00 a.m. to 10.00 a.m. and
from 5.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. On Pooradam star days, the temple is open from 8.00
a.m. to 1.00 p.m.
Festivals
Aipasi Annabishekam in October-November, Thai Poosam in
January-February, Shivarathri in February-March, Navarathri in
September-October and Panguni Uthiram in March-April are the festivals
celebrated in the temple.
Prayers
The belief is that it is auspicious for those born under
Poorada Nakshathra to visit this temple and make offerings to Akashapureeswarar
on the day of their Nakshathra birthday. Devotees specially born on Poorada Nakshathra
come here to offer prayers and seek the grace of Lord Akashapureeswarar and Mangalambikai
to wash away their sins, obstacles in life and get relief from the ill effects
of stars. The Poorada Nakshathra remain serving Lord Akashapureeswarar here and
therefore the ill effects of planetary afflictions are nullified by the grace
of the Lord.
Those facing obstacles in their marriages, worship on
Pooradam star day burning incense powder (Sambirani) smoke. Devotees offer
Javadhu and Punugu, both cosmetic powders, to Lord and offer Kesari-a sweet
pudding- as Nivedhana to Lord. The temple it is appropriate to conduct the
Vastu Pooja for the earth element before constructing a building or home so
that there would be no obstacles during the construction.
