Kailasanathar Temple, Karukudi, Trichy
Kailasanathar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Karukudi Village in Trichy District of Tamilnadu. Presiding Deity is called as Kailasanathar and Mother is called as Karunakara Valli. The temple is associated with Revathi Nakshathra and is called as Revathi Star Temple.

Planet Moon married the deity of the last star Revathi. (Of the 27 stars Aswini is the first and Revathi is the last). They wanted to have the darshan of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvathi. Mother was so merciful and granted darshan to them with Lord. Lord Shiva and Mother Parvathi had granted darshan to all the 27-star deities in this temple. Yet Star Revathi continued to worship here imagining the great mercy of the divine parents, according to some stories.
Special Temple for Farmers:
Lord is called Kailasanathar and Mother Karunakara Valli. Kar in Tamil means rain clouds. They are 7 in numbers. It is said that these clouds worship in the temple on Revathi star days. It is believed that any special puja performed to Varuna the God of Rains on a Sunday combined with Tiruvadhirai star or on Revathi star would bring sufficient rains both for general consumption and for irrigation needs without scarcity. This is a special temple for farmers.
History
According to some history, the temple was rebuilt by a chieftain named Valvil Ori ruling Kollimalai noted for his charitable character. In the year 1266, Karnataka king Veera Ramanathan donated adequate lands for the maintenance of Pujas in the temple. Another king Rama Chakravarthy donated more lands to the temple in the year 1541 and 1619.



The Temple
Presiding Deity is called as Kailasanathar. Lord Shiva graces in the temple as a Swayambumurthy. Mother is called as Karunakara Valli. There are shrines for Lord Vinayaka, Lord Muruga, Mother Kasi Visalakshi, Kumkumavalli, Agora Veerabhadra, Kala Bhairava, Sun, Moon, Navagrahas the nine planets, Nandhi, Lords Dakshinamurthy, Brahmma and Vishnu, Mother Gomu Durga and Chandikeswara in the corridor-prakara.




Temple Opening Time
The temple remains open from 6.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. and from 5.00 p.m. and 8.00 p.m.
Prayers
People of Revathi star give more weight to wife’s views. They are friendly, courageous and honest, yet think high of themselves and love luxury. They possess the power to conquer enemies. Besides Revathi starrers worshipping in the temple for relief from doshas they face, other facing illnesses due to water related problems, vision and prolonged diseases perform special archanas to Lord. It is the common belief that people of all stars will be relieved of their sins if they circumambulate in the temple and also perform milk abishek to the Lord to succeed in their efforts.
Those named Revathi or belonging to Revathi star are advised to avail all possible times to worship in this temple for betterment or at least on their annual star day and offer to Lord and Mother 27 numbers of any auspicious article as 27 Mangal Sutras, 27 blouse bits or 27 food packets and distribute them to the devotees visiting the temple to realize their wishes in life. They are also advised to perform milk abishek to Lord before 12 minutes of the beginning of Aswini star following the end of Revathi star.
