Sri
Panchamurthy procession on Chitra Poornima day in April-May, Vinayaka Chaturthi
in August-September, Shivarathri in February-March, Margazhi Tiruvadhirai in
December-January, Tirukarthikai in November-December, Aadi Kruthika in
July-August, Thai Kruthika and Thai Poosam in January-February and Panguni
Uthiram in March-April are the festivals of the temple.
10-day Margazhi
festival is grandly celebrated. The wedding festival for Lord Nataraja and
Mother Sivakami is celebrated on Margazhi Tiruvadhirai day. Chithirai
Thiruvonam, Aani Uthiram, Margazhi Arudhra, Pradhosham and Aavani, Purattasi
and Maasi Valarpirai Chathurthasi (day before the new moon day) totally 6 times
a year Natarajar Abhishekam is done in this temple.
Special
abishekams are performed for Lord Muruga on Aadi and Thai Kruthika days and
Panguni Uthiram day. The Manickavasagar Vizha is celebrated for 9 days. On the
Karthigai Deepam day based on 27 stars, 27 Madakku (a large sized mud lamp)
Deepa Aaradhana festival is celebrated. During the reign of the Pandyas the
Gudhirai Chokkar Vizha was celebrated in a grand manner.
