Sahasra Lakshmeeswarar Temple
is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Theeyathur Village in
Avudaiyar Koil Taluk in Pudukottai District of Tamilnadu. Presiding Deity is called as Sahasra
Lakshmeeswarar and Mother is called as Brihannayaki. The temple is associated
with Uthiratadhi Nakshathra and is
called as Uthiratadhi Star
Temple.

The
Temple
Presiding Deity is called as Sahasra
Lakshmeeswarar. Lord of the temple is a Swayambumurthy gracing eastward. Mother
is called as Brihannayaki and she is facing south. There are shrines for Vinayaka,
Nandhi, Dakshinamurthy, Lingodhbava, Brahmma, Nagar, Lord Muruga with his
consorts Valli and Deivanai, Navagrahas the nine planets, Chandikeswara,
Bhairava, Surya-Sun, Chandra-Moon and a separate shrine for Vancha Ganapathi in
the Temple premises. Sthala Vriksham is Neem Tree. Theertham associated with
this Temple is Thamaraikulam (Lotus Tank).

Opening Time
This temple is open for a few hours in the morning only
and one has to speak to the Priests in advance.
Festivals
Maha Shivarathri is celebrated in this Temple with much
fanfare.
Prayers
Uthiratadhi starrers pray seeking solutions to their
problems. Devotees seek the blessings of Lord for relief from debt burdens and
child boon and prosperity. People perform special abishek, archanas and Homas
and offer Sweet Pudding with cashews, grapes, honey and Badam as Nivedhana to
Lord and Mother and distribute it to poor. Hence the starrers are advised to
visit the temple as often as they can or at least on their annual star day. As Agni
worshipped here, those suffering from heat related diseases worship here.
