composed the Tiruneelakandapathigam here, to help rid fellow travellers of an
affliction. Saint Arunagirinathar has also composed Tirupugal on Lord
Subramanya here. Muthuswamy Deekshithar has sung of this shrine in
Ardhanareeswaram in Kumuda kriya.
In the
epic, Silappathikaram, the author Ilango Adigal refers to Tiruchengode as
‘Chengodu’ and describes it as a place that ‘has numerous holy ponds and enjoys
popularity and prosperity’.
