Aruna Jadeswarar Temple, Thiruppanandal, Thanjavur

Aruna Jadeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Thiruppanandal Town in Thiruvidaimaruthur Taluk in Thanjavur District in Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Aruna Jadeswarar / Senjadai Appar / Senjadaiyar / Thaalavaneswarar / Jadaathar / Thaalapureeswarar / Panangaateeswarar and Mother is called as Brihan Nayagi / Periyanayaki / Thaalavaneswari. The temple is situated on the southern banks of Kollidam River.  





This Temple is considered as one of the shrines of the 276 Paadal Petra Sthalams glorified in the early medieval Thevaram hymns. This Temple is the 93rd Devara Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 39th sthalam on the north side of river Cauvery in Chozha Nadu. Lord Murugan of this Temple is praised by Saint Arunagirinathar in his revered Thirupugazh hymns. The temple is maintained by the Dharmapuram Aadheenam.

History

This Temple was believed to be built by a local King called Nakkandharan. There are inscriptions in this temple dating back to Kulothunga Chola I, Rajaraja Chola II and other Kings ruled over this area. The Temple was called as Thala Vanam and Thadagai Eswaram as per the inscriptions. Lord was called as Thadagai Iswarathu Mahadevar as per the inscriptions. There is an inscription mentioning the name of Kungiliya Kalaya Nayanar wife as Neelayi. The Kasi Mutt established by Saint Kumara Gurubarar is situated in this Town. This temple is under the administrative control of the Dharumapuram Aadheenam. The last consecration ceremony took place on 06.07.2003.

Temple Opening Time

The temple remains open from 6.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon and from 4.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m.

Festivals

Chithira Brahmotsavam (Apr-May), Aadi Pooram (Jul-Aug), Purattasi Navaratri (Sep-Oct) and Skanda Shashti & Aippasi Annabishekam (Oct – Nov) are the festivals celebrated here. Monthly Pradoshams are also observed regularly. During the new moon day in Tamil month of Aavani, the temple celebrates another grant festival called Brahma Saba Nivarthi Theerthavari. Theerthavari is conducted at the Brahma Theertham.

The Temple is located at about 750 meters from Thiruppanandal Bus Stand, 10 Kms from Aduthurai, 11 Kms from Aduthurai Railway Station, 11 Kms from Pandanallur, 20 Kms from Kumbakonam, 20 Kms from Kumbakonam Railway Station, 57 Kms from Thanjavur and 110 Kms from Trichy Airport. The Temple is situated on Kumbakonam to Anaikkarai Road (Chennai highway).
