Annamalaiyar Temple – Indra Lingam
Indra Lingam is the first of the eight lingams (Ashta
Lingams) which one encounters during Girivalam in Thiruvannamalai. This is the
first lingam while the hill circumambulation, worshipping this lingam yields
healthy and wealthy life.
The Indra Lingam has east as its direction. It is
associated with the celestial Lord Indra. This Lingam is situated on Car Street
close to the eastern tower of Arunachaleswarar Temple.
The Indra Lingam is dominated by the Navagrahas, Lord
Surya and Lord Shukra (Venus). Devotees are blessed with long life and with
prosperity, on worshipping Indra lingam.
Location
Indra Lingam is located towards the east of the
Annamalai Mountain on Car Street. Arunachaleswarar Temple’s eastern tower is
one of the major landmarks near it. Indra Lingam is located on temple Car
Street about 280-350 meters from the Arulmigu Arunachaleswarar Temple depending
upon the route taken.
Creation
This lingam was created by Indra who is worshipped as
the ruler of Heaven as per Hindu Mythology. Indra’s companion is Indrani, and
he travels on Iravatham, the white elephant with four tusks. Indra with his
weapon Vajra puts end to ignorance and confers divine knowledge to the
devotees.
Navagraha
Indra Lingam’s dominant Navagrahas (dominant planetary
body) are Sun (Surya) and Venus (Shukra). The moon Signs of this Lingam are
Tula (Libra) and Vrishaba (Taurus).
Speciality
It is believed that worshipping at this temple provides
worshippers with long life and great wealth.
