Chettiar Park, Kodaikanal

Chettiar Park, Kodaikanal
Chettiar Park or Government Park is a well maintained park in the path to Kurinji Kovil. This park is well maintained with lush green lawns and well laid paths in addition to several varieties of plants and trees. Several South Indian film scenes have been shot in this park.

One of the specialties of this park is that the park has a huge number of Kurinji plants which produce violet flowers once in twelve years. It last bloomed in 2004. This park is greatly crowded during tourist seasons in the month of May and June and it has considerably lesser number of visitors in other months.

Chettiar Park is about 1.5km uphill from town on the way to the Kurinji Andavar Temple. It is small, pretty and landscaped. It gets crowded with school groups and canoodling couples.

Chettiar Park, managed by the township, is on the way to the Kurinji Temple. It is 3.2 kms from the Bus Stand. Unlike other areas this park is very quiet, and those who love calm time passing can prefer this park.

A huge variety of fascinating flowers can be seen here. The beautifully designed bushes adorn the garden. The amazing purple bloom of the Kurinji Flowers can be seen here once in every twelve years. It last bloomed in 2004. The well developed grass meadow and cool trees make the ambiance fresh and calm making Chettiar Park a pleasing tourist spot.
