Ellaiyamman Temple, Perumber Kandikai, Kanchipuram
Ellaiyamman
Temple is located at Perumber Kandikai Village in Kanchipuram District.
Presiding deity is called as Renuka Parameswari and Sthala Vriksham is Neem
Tree. This temple and the sthala Vriksham dates back to 1700 years. Renuka
Parameswari is made of limestone and sand (Sudhai Sirpam). In the Sanctum
Sanctorum, Ambal is found a bit away from the centre position. Daily poojas are
being performed regularly. Also, all the main festivals are being celebrated
without break.
This
Amman is the protector of this Village. The location of the temple is awesome
with a beautiful temple tank at the base. Cement benches are provided under the
big trees to provide a nice picnic atmosphere. There was dilapidated mandapam
near the goddess, which suggested that this place is ancient.
The name
of the village itself is very unique, Perum + Peru + Kandigai, meaning that one
should be very fortunate in order to take birth in this village. This village
is situated approximately 5 Kms from Achirappakkam (a small town in Chennai –
Tiruchy national Highway).
It is
said that during ancient times, there were nearly 33 temples in this village.
As days passed on, most of them got damaged due to various reasons and only a
few among them were left.
