Emaneswaram Udayar Temple, Paramakudi, Ramanathapuram
Emaneswaram Udayar Temple is dedicated to Hindu God Shiva located in Emaneswaram Village near Paramakudi in Ramanathapuram District of Tamilnadu. Yama the Lord of Death worshipped Lord Shiva in this temple.

Legends
Sage Markandeya destined with a short life span of just 16 years, was on a pilgrimage to Shiva temples praying for longer life.  He was at Lord Amirthakadeswarar temple at Thirukkadaiyur exactly on the last day of his life embracing the Lord. Lord Yama waved his rope to take Markandeya’s life. The rope fell on the Lord Shivalinga. Furious Shiva tossed Yama with his left leg. Realizing his folly, Yama made a linga at this place where he fell and sought Lord’s pardon. Granting his request, Lord reinstated him in the job. Also as requested by Yama, Lord stayed in this place with the name Emaneswaram Udayar.
The Temple
Lord Shiva, who was a Samharamurthy (destroyer) in Thirukkadaiyur by punishing Yama, graces as Anugrahamurthy (protector) in this temple seated under the Indra Vimana in the sanctum sanctorum. Devotees pray here for longevity and for relief from the adverse aspects of planet Saturn. It is believed that performing Ayush Homa, celebrating 60th and 80th birthday in the temple would bless the devotee with longer life. On the Masi Magam day, as representative of Lord Shiva, Lord Muruga considered to be Shiva himself, visit the Theertham event.

Annabishekam is performed to Lord Muruga on the last Monday of Karthikai month in December. Vinayaka of the temple is praised as Lord Raja Ganapathy. Mother Swarna Gujambal with two hands blesses devotees from a separate shrine. Those facing delays in wedding and concerned with child welfare tie mangal sutras and bangles in Mother’s shrine for relief.  On Ashtami day in December – January and Durgastami day in Purattasi-September – October special pujas and Homas are performed for Lord Bhairava.
Lord Vinayaka and Lord Muruga with his consorts Valli and Deivanai bless the devotees in the front Mandapam. Lords Mallikarjuneswara and Bhairava without his dog vehicle are in the Prakara. Navagraha shrine is in the prakara.
