Eswarar Temple, Edarkundram, Chengalpattu
Thirumalai Eswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Edarkundram Village in Thiruporur Taluk in Chengalpattu District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Thirumalai Eswarar and Mother is called as Sornambigai. The Temple is situated on the side of a small hillock.
The Temple
The Temple is situated in a hillock and can be accessed through flight of steps. The Temple is facing towards east. The Temple consists of sanctum and mukha mandapam. Nandi and Balipeedam can be found in the mukha mandapam facing towards sanctum. Sub shrines of Balamurugan and Bala Vinayagar can be found at the entrance of the sanctum.
Presiding Deity is called as Thirumalai Eswarar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Ganesha, Dakshinamoorthy, Vishnu, Brahma and Durga are the koshta idols located around the sanctum walls. Chandikeswarar Shrine can be seen in his usual location. Mother is called as Sornambigai. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine.
There are shrines for shrines for Vinayagar, Murugan with his consorts Valli & Deivanai, Ayyapan, Navagrahas, Naga idols in the temple premises. There is a shrine for Pancha Mukha Anjaneyar in the temple premises. Sculpture of Lord Anjaneyar is carved on the rock surface in this shrine. There is a elephant shaped rock formation near the temple. The temple pond is situated at the base of the hill.
