Kailasanathar Temple, the Shiva temple in Tharamangalam, is an hour’s journey by road from Salem. Some parts of the temple go back to the 10th century CE. The present structure can be credited to the 17th century Gatti Mudali dynasty. It is known for its architectural beauty that consists of very detailed statues and stone carvings, along with a rotating lotus flower in its ceiling. Tharamangalam is located at about 30 kms west of Salem and 10 kms South West of Omalur and the temple is present just opposite the bus stand.

According to experiences of the devotees, those praying in the temple are blessed with wedding and child boon.  Majority of the devotees pray for job opportunities, development in trade and farm yields, promotions etc.
Realizing their wishes, devotees perform abishek to Lord and Mother with turmeric, sandal, panchamirtha a mixture of five fruits and other sweetening ingredients and milk. Abishek to Lord and Mother are important commitments. They also offer nivedhana and distribute it to other devotees. Some arrange feeding-Annadhana and contribute liberally for the renovation of the temple.

Tharamangalam is a panchayat town in Salem district which is an hour’s bus journey from the Salem city. The place is famous for its beautiful and historic Kailasanathar temple. The temple is right opposite to the Tharamangalam bus station.
By Road:
Taramangalam being on the Salem-Mettur road is connected with town bus facility from Salem. Frequent Town buses are available from Salem. Buses are also available from Mettur, Erode, Salem and Omalur. Salem, 18 km away, is the nearest major city to Tharamangalam and is well-connected with public and private bus services.
By Train:
Salem also has the nearest major train junction (station), from which metropolises such as Bengaluru and Chennai are just a few hours ride away.
By Air:
Nearest major airports are at Trichy (150 km) and Coimbatore (160 km).
