Vijayaraghava
Perumal Temple (Thiruputkuzhi) is a small temple town in Tamilnadu, India. It is situated about 7 miles west of Kanchipuram and half a kilometer from Balu Chetti Chathiram
which lies on the Chennai – Vellore highway.
This Divyadesam is situated about 7 miles away from Kanchipuram in west direction. This Temple is among the 108 divyadesams of Sri Vaishnavas and comes under Tondai Naatu divyadesams in Kanchipuram. This is the only divyadesam that is a bit far from other 14 divyadesams of Kanchipuram.
The
presiding deity is Sri Vijayaraghava perumal in a sitting posture and Thayar in
a separate Sannadhi is called Maragathavalli Thayar. In this Shrine, the
presiding deity appears keeping Jatayu on his thigh. Whenever the Lord comes in
procession, equal importance is given to Jatayu also. As a mark of respect to
Jatayu, the flag post and Balipeeta are outside the temple.
There is
no proper lodging facility near this Temple. Thirumangai Alwar wrote 2
pasurams. Sri Rama came here and done the last rites for Jatayu, as his father.
This temple is a place where all can do their rites to their forefathers. One
of the beliefs in this temple is Boon for child is given to those who don't
have child.

Importance
Thiruputkuzhi
is believed to be the birth place of Yadava Prakasa, the teacher of Vaishnava
saint Ramanuja and also that of Pinpazhagiya Perumal
Jeeyar. Vedanta Desikar, composed hymns, praising the presiding deity.
Thirumangai Azhwar has also revered the temple in his verses.
The
temple follows Pancharaktha Agama and the worship practises are carried out by hereditary
priests belonging to the Porakathi Bhattar sect. Special poojas are done on
every Amavasai in a grand way.
