Norton’s Bungalow, Yercaud
Norton’s
Bungalow is one of the oldest bungalows on this mountain. This bungalow was
owned by a famous criminal lawyer in the court at Chennai. There is a cave near
the bungalow known as Bear’s Cave.
For a
long time, Yercaud served as a summer retreat or a resort to British officers
and commanders who lived in India. Year after year, they kept visiting this
place to enjoy a wonderful vacation, beating the scorching heat of Indian
summers.
One of
those officers, Norton, who was a powerful Criminal Lawyer in Chennai, built a
beautiful European Bungalow which is now a popular place of interest in the
hill station.
The
bungalow is a private property that doesn’t offer access without prior
permission. Hence, prior to a visit to this historic bungalow, it will be wise
to ensure that you have procured the required permission to visit the site.
