Vadakku
Pachayar Dam is located near Kalakkad, a Panchayat
town in Thirunelveli District of Tamilnadu. This Dam
has been built recently (about 30 years back) by the Government of Tamilnadu. Vadakku
Pachayar is a tributary of Tamirabarani River which merges near Tharuvai. Even
when there is no water in, say Courtralam, it is said that water is available
here always for tourists to visit and enjoy.
To enter
into the adjoining sanctuary areas, you need to get special permission from
forest department. However, the dam is approachable without such a permit. The
climate of Kalakad is usually cool and breezy because of the Western Ghats. The
Dam is located at the foot hills of Western Ghats. People visiting Courtralam also
pay a visit to this dam. This dam site is noted for its salubrious climate and
atmosphere.
This dam
is gaining popularity as a popular tourist spot among the people which was once
only visited by people from nearby places. Vadakku Pachayar Dam is a place that
is loved by families during the holidays and vacations. The amazing
surroundings and the climate of the place make it a more preferable tourist
spot. The heavy rains in the monsoon period restrict the tourist activities.

is located at about 15 Kms from Nanguneri, 47 Kms from Thirunelveli and 205 Kms
from Madurai. This place can be reached from Thirunelveli, Nanguneri and Vallioor etc. by bus. The nearest railway station is
located at Nanguneri (15 Kms). Nearest airports are located at Thiruvananthapuram (126 Kms) and Madurai (205 Kms)
and Tuticorin (88 Kms).
