Vyagrapureeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Pulipakkam Village near Chengalpattu Town in Chengalpattu Taluk in Chengalpattu District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Vyagrapureeswarar / Ponmalai Udaiya Nayanar and Mother is called as Mangalyam Kaatha Narayani Ambal. The temple is situated on the hill top.
Legends
As per legend, Sage Vyagrapada (Pulikkal Munivar) installed Shiva Linga here and worshipped. Hence, Lord Shiva came to be called as Vyagrapureeswarar and the place came to be called as Pulipakkam. It is also said that Sage Patanjali had worshipped Lord Shiva here.
History
The temple was believed to be built by Chola Emperor Rajaraja Chola. The temple contains inscriptions of Rajaraja Chola I, Kulotunga Chola III, Rajaraja Chola III, Rajendra Chola III, Veerakanda Choda and Vijaya Kanda Gopala Choda. The temple was vandalized during Islamic invasion. Lord Shiva of this temple was called as Ponmalai Udaiya Nayanar and the village was called as Jayamkonda Chozha Mandalathu Kalathur Kottathu Sathru Simha Mangalamagiya Chozha Sigamani Chaturvedi Mangalathu Pulipakkam as per the inscriptions in this temple.

Chennai Airport and 63 Kms from Chennai. The temple is situated on Chennai to
Chengalpattu route immediately after the tollgate on the right side. All the
buses from Chengalpattu to Tambaram will stop at Pulipakkam.
