Sankara
Rameswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Siva, is a popular religious center
located in Thoothukudi. The pilgrims travelling to Thiruchendur, takes a dip at
the holy tank called Vancha Pushkarani in this temple. This is where,
it is believed, that Lord Siva defined Pranava-Mantra to Goddess
Parvathi and this place is called as Thirumanthira Nagaram.
The
temple is one of the oldest structures (above 700 years) in Thoothukudi. This
temple is dedicated to Shiva as Sankara Rameswarar and Mother Shakti
as Bagampriyal Udanurai The main festival Arulmigu Sankara Rameshvarar
Temple is at month of Chitra & Tamil New Year which is most famous among
the Thoothukudi region.
