Karuppariyalur Kutram Porutha Naathar Temple, Nagapattinam
Karuppariyalur Kutram Porutha Naathar temple is a Hindu temple located at Thalaignaayiru in Nagapattinam district of TamilnaduIndia. The historical name of is Karuppariyalur or Karmanaasapuram. The presiding deity is Shiva. He is called as Kutram Porutha Naathar (Aparaathakshameswarar). His consort is Kolvalai Naayaki.


It is one of the shrines of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams - Shiva Sthalams glorified in the early medieval Tevaram poems by Tamil Saivite Nayanars Tirugnanasambandar and Sundarar. This is the 27th place of the holy places situated in the northern banks of river Kaveri, celebrated by Thevaram. This temple is located about 8 kms from Vaitheeswaran koil. The other names for this sthalam are Thiru Karuppariyalur, Melaikkazhi and Kallar kottai.

The Temple
In this temple there are 3 shrines for God Shiva viz., Kutram Porutha Natheswarar, Uma Maheswarar and Sattanathar. Hence this sthalam is also a Maadakkovil and is referred to as "Melaikkazhi". The shrine for Kutram Porutha Natheswarar is situated in the ground level and the second and third shrines are situated at an elevated site as found in Sirkazhi. This temple has 4 prakarams and the stucco images on the vimanams adorning the sanctum are of great beauty. The Rajagopuram here is not in alignment with the sanctum here. The Lord of this place appears as swayambu murthi.



The temple has a separate shrine called Maadakkovil (hilltop temple) dedicated to Bhairava (Sattanathar). The Vinayagar in this holy place graces us in the name ‘Siddhi Vinayagar’. This temple is built as a ‘hill temple’ in the model of Sattainaathar temple at Sirkaali. Hence, this holy place is known as “Melaikkazhi”. From the first floor of the temple Lord Uma Maheswarar and from the second floor Lord Sattainaathar grace the devotees. Lord Chandikeswarar appears with his spouse in the sitting posture. Sthala Theerthams are Suriya Pushkarini and Potramarai kulam. Sthala Vriksham is Kodi Mullai.


Temple Opening Time
The temple is open from 6.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. and again from 5.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m.
Festivals
On the Thirukarthigai and Thiruvathirai days, the Lord goes on procession. All festivals related to Lord Siva are celebrated in a grand manner.
Prayers
Those with no issues, persons whose babies die in infancy due to curse, devotees who pray for male issues or female issues worship the deity of this holy place. When the prayers are fulfilled, the devotees perform pooja to Lord Dakshinamurthi of this place.

Connectivity
This temple is located at about 10 Kms from another Paadal Petra Shivasthalam Vaitheeswaran Kovil. It is better to engage an auto from Vaitheeswaran Kovil to visit this temple as it is situated away from the main bus route. Thalaignaayiru is on the Manalmedu route. Nearest Railway Station is located at Mayiladuthurai and Nearest Airport is located at Trichy.
