Enadi Shiva Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Enadi Village in Ponnamaravathi Taluk in Pudukottai District of Tamil Nadu This temple is the smallest stone temple in the Pandya region. This temple is situated on the western bund of Enadi Kulam.

History

This temple is believed to be built by Chola Emperor Rajaraja Chola I (985 – 1014 CE).

The Temple

This temple is facing towards east and is similar to the Mamallapuram Draupathi Ratha in architectural style. This temple consists of sanctum and mukha mandapam. The mukha mandapam is supported by two pillars and is of later addition. The sikhara is square on plan and the stupi is broken. There are no koshtas in the external wall as well as on the griva. The exterior of the temple is devoid of any decoration except the pilasters. Nandi, Shiva Lingam, broken sculptures, and architectural fragments can be seen in the temple premises.

The temple is located at about 2.5 Kms from Vendhanpatti, 3 Kms from Ponnamaravathi Bus Stand, 3.5 Kms from Ponnamaravathi, 24 Kms from Tirupattur, 32 Kms from Thirumayam, 33 Kms from Thirumayam Railway Station, 38 Kms from Pudukkottai, 41 Kms from Pudukkottai Railway Station and 80 Kms from Trichy Airport. The temple is situated on the Ponnamaravathi to Vendhanpatti route.
