Atulya Nadheswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in Arakandanallur near Thirukovilur Town in Thirukovilur Taluk in Kallakurichi District of Tamil Nadu, India. Presiding Deity is called as Atulya Nadheswarar / Oppilaa Maneeswarar / Oppillaadha Eswarar / Oppillaadha Nayanaar / Arayani Nathar and Mother is called as Soundarya Kanakambikai / Azhagiya Ponnammai / Arul Nayagi / Azhagiya Ponnazhagi.





This Temple is considered as one of the shrines of the 276 Paadal Petra Sthalams (Shiva Sthalams) glorified in the early medieval Thevaram poems. This Temple is considered as the 44th Devaram Padal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 12th Shiva Sthalam in Nadu Naadu. The Temple is located on a small hillock on the banks of Thenpennai River.

Temple Opening Time

The Temple remains open from 7.00 a.m. to 10.00 a.m. and from 4.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m.

Worship Practices

The temple priests perform the puja (rituals) during festivals and on a daily basis. The temple rituals are performed four times a day; Kalasanthi at 7:00 a.m., Irandam Kalm at 9:00 a.m., Sayarakshai at 6:00 p.m, and Arthajamam at 8:00 p.m. Each ritual comprises four steps: abhisheka (sacred bath), alangaram (decoration), naivethanam (food offering) and deepa aradanai (waving of lamps) for Atulya Nadheswarar and Azhagiya Ponnazhagi.

Festivals

10 days Vaikasi Brahmotsavam in May-June, Maha Shivrathri in February-March and Tirukarthikai in November-December are the important festivals celebrated in in this temple. Other festivals include Vinayaka Chaturthi, Aadi Pooram, Navaratri, Aippasi Pournami, Skanda Sashti, Arudhra Darisanam, Thai Poosam, Maasi Magam and Panguni Uthiram. There are weekly rituals like Somavaram (Monday) and Sukravaram (Friday), fortnightly rituals like Pradosham, and monthly festivals like Amavasai (new moon day), Kiruthigai, Pournami (full moon day) and Sathurthi.

The Temple is located at about 500 meters from Thirukovilur Railway Station, 3 Kms from Thirukovilur, 3 Kms from Thirukovilur Bus Stand, 34 Kms from Villupuram, 47 Kms from Kallakurichi and 180 Kms from Chennai Airport. The Temple is situated on Thirukovilur to Villupuram Route. Buses running to Thirukovilur from Villupuram pass through Arakandanallur.
