Airavatesvara Temple, Darasuram – Sarabeswarar Shrine

Airavatesvara Temple, Darasuram – Sarabeswarar Shrine
There is a separate shrine for Sarabeswarar, a fusion of man, eagle and lion – the deity is believed to have relieved the Devas (celestial deities) from the fury of Vishnu in the form of Narasimha after he slayed Hiranyakasipu.

A rare sculpture of Shiva as Sarabeswarar Moorthy only found on very few temples around the world. Special Poojas were performed on every Sunday during Raghu Kalam period i.e., 4:30 to 6:00 PM organized by Sarabeswarar weekly vazhipaattu Mandram

This sculpture of Sarabeswarar is present in Darasuram, the pinnacle of Chola artistic expression in stone, is no excuse for the religious one-upmanship of the emergence of this iconography.
