Manikarnikeswarar
Temple is a Hindu
temple located in the town
of Thanjavur, India. It is located at East Main Street of Thanjavur Town. The
temple was constructed by Serfoji
II in 1827. The principal deity is Manikarnikeswarar
and the goddess, Mangala Nayaki Amman. Two Kaalam Poojas are conducted in this
Temple.
Sivarathri,
Anna Abishegam, Pradosham and Aadi Friday are the festivals celebrated with
much fanfare. During this festival poojas will be scheduled in 4 terms from
evening 4:00 pm to early morning 4:00 am. Lord Shiva and Nandi will be
specially decorated and anointed with 16 fragrances. Finally Deepaaradhanai
(torch) is shown.
Religious
discourse, offering Prasadam and a wide variety of events will take place at
night. It is believed that if we worship Shiva on Mahasivarathri, we will be
rewarded of worshipping Shiva for the whole year. Devotees believe that if we
involve in 4 term pooja done during this festival, we will be blessed with
peace and good health. Temple will be open from Morning 6:00 am to noon
12:00 pm & Evening 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
