Agastheeshwarar temple is a famous Shiva temple situated near Amaravathi River. This is the Ancient temple. People believe that, they get rid of all their problems, after praying to this god. This temple located in Dharapuram taluk in Tirupur District.

The Temple
This temple is located in historical famous place of Dharapuram in Tirupur district. Dharapuram is also known as paranthagapuram, Rajapuram and Viradapuram in the ancient days. In Dharapuram at Amaravathi (Porunai) river bed, "Agastheeshwarar" temple is located.
According to the Hindu mythology, on the occasion of goddess Parvathi Devi’s wedding day, Brahma, Thirumal, Moppathu mukkodi Devar's are assembled at mountain ' Meru'. At that time , meru's north part was lowered . Due to this, south part got lifted up.

To stop this movement, Lord Siva sent Agasthiyar to Pothigai to make the earth equilibrium. On the way to Pothigai, Agasthiyar stayed at Dharapuram. He sent his follower's to Kasi to bring 'Ĺšivalinga'. They made delay and did not return in time. In the meantime, Agasthiyar made 'Linga' in Amaravathi River's Bed and prayed lord Siva so, this temple's god called as "Agastheeshwarar".
After this consecration of Linga, Agasthiyar's followers brought linga from Kasi. It is established as ‘Kasi Viswanathar' in the right side of the temple. Panja pandavar's prayed this god Agastheeshwarar at their hidden life period.
This temple was prayed by Puthur Bhagavan Thirumalaiswamy. Every devotee who is praying this god they will attain all the welfare's and redeem from the troubles of marriage, employment, Heir's issue and mental - caliber. The devotees are obtained all the goodness to take bath in Amaravathi River.
