Sivaganga
Park is a recreational park in the city of Thanjavur in Tamilnadu, India. It adjoins the Brihadeeswarar Temple, a popular tourist destination. This park remains to be
a popular picnic spot for people from Thanjavur and Surrounding Areas. The
garden, which lies in the quadrangular Siva Ganga Fort, is well maintained with
an appealing mix of both flowering and non-flowering plants.
There is
a square tank in the Siva Ganga Park; this was believed to be built by Raja
Raja Chola and renovated in the 16th century by the Nayak ruler, Sevappa Nayaka
to provide water to the Tanjore Palace. Even today it is in use and is
appreciated for its sweet-tasting water.

History
The
Sivaganga Park was created as a people's park by the Tanjore municipality in
1871 – 72. It is situated to the east of the 11th century Brihadeeswarar Temple and encompasses the Sivaganga Tank believed to
have been built by the Medieval Chola king Raja
Raja Chola. In the initial
days, the park was not maintained as the locality was overcrowded and
ill-ventilated. However, the park is fairly maintained now. As a part of
the makeover operations in the lead up to the 1994 World Tamil Conference,
motor boating facilities were introduced in the Sivaganga Tank.
Facilities
A toy
train, motor boating facilities and a miniature zoological garden are located
within the park. The Thanjavur Municipal Library is also situated within
the precincts of the park. Water sledge, water tumbler and water umbrella are
the major attractions here. Zoological Park consists of love birds, pigeons,
ducks, jackals, rabbits and deer. Science Park also present in this park.
Siva
Ganga Park is a great place to unwind. You could just sit around and soak in
the greenery or indulge in some activity. The park offers boating facilities;
there is a toy train and a mini zoo which kids will love. If you want a
thrilling ride, take the cable car that connects to a small temple. Bird lovers
can spot many birds here.
The
place is abuzz with fairs in the evenings. And if you are a foodie, do indulge
in some of the mouth-watering food that is on offer here. The food is delicious
and easy on the wallet and you can get to taste many local delicacies.

This
park remains on all days and the timings are between 9 AM and 6 PM.
