Single day trips are recommended since accommodation facilities are limited at Mukkali. From Mukkali, the base camp of Silent Valley National Park, 20 KM away from Mannarkkad, guided trips are operated by the Silent Valley Forest Development Agency. As it is a narrow forest road no private vehicles are allowed beyond Mukkali. Those visitors interested to visit Sairandhri have to arrange either a bus ticket or a jeep which is available at Silent Valley Information Centre at Mukkali. Advance booking over phone (+91 4924 253225) is necessary for visiting the park.
The visitors will be taken to Sairandhri, from where the core area of the National Park begins which is 23 KM away from Mukkali. Enroute visitors can enjoy various forest types starting from moist deciduous to evergreen. Visiting hours is from 8 AM to 1 PM. No accommodation is available inside the park. At Sairandhri visitors can trek up to the banks of River Kunthi (1.2 Km). Bathing is not permitted in Kunthi River. Visitors can also enjoy the scenic beauty of Silent valley landscape from the top of the 100 feet tall watch tower. The time span for the entire trip is 5 hrs.
