Bhoominathar Temple, Sevalur, Pudukkottai

Bhoominathar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Sevalur Village in Ponnamaravathi Taluk in Pudukottai District of Tamil Nadu, India. Presiding deity is called as Bhoominathar and Mother is called as Aranavalli. This temple is famous for the Vasthu Poojas. The temple is one of the protected monuments in Tamil Nadu declared by Archaeological Survey of India.

History

This temple is believed to have been built by the Pandyas in 12th century CE. An inscription dated to 1458 CE records the endowment made by the Nagarathar community for conducting pooja rituals in the temple. There is another inscription found on southern wall of the temple near to the entrance.

Festivals

Masi Shivarathri (Feb-Mar), Panguni Uthiram (Mar-Apr), Thiru Karthigai (Nov-Dec) and Margazhi Thiruvadhirai (Dec-Jan) are the festivals celebrated in the temple.

Prayers

This temple is famous for the Vasthu Poojas. Devotees pray here for construction of houses, factories & hospitals, relief from the fear of earthquakes, settlements in land disputes, removal of obstacles in their endeavors, relief from sin caused by the cheating of temple leases  and relief from doshas afflicted due to the cutting of sacred trees like Arasu, Vembu and banyan trees & removal of anthills during construction activities. Devotees also pray here for salvation of departed souls, favorable court orders in disputes, better agricultural yields, job promotions, removal of difficulties in jobs, business & trade and relief from back pain & problem in hip areas. The Prithvi Theertham situated near Sevalur is considered sacred for performing Tarpan for ancestors.

The temple is located at about 4 Kms from Kuzhipirai Bypass Bus Stop, 15 Kms from Ponnamaravathi, 19 Kms from Namanasamudram Railway Station, 26 Kms from Pudukkottai Railway Station, 26 Kms from Pudukkottai and 69 Kms from Trichy Airport. The temple is situated at about 4 Kms to the south-west of Kuzhipirai Bypass Bus Stop on Pudukottai to Ponnamaravathi route. Buses from Pudukkottai to Ponnamaravathi stops at Kuzhipirai Bypass Bus Stop. Autos can be hired from Kuzhipirai Bypass Bus Stop to reach this temple.
